The Deep Cleansing Facial is the treatment we built specifically for clients dealing with acne, blackheads, whiteheads, congested pores, and the kind of breakouts that don't respond to home routines alone. Steam, professional extractions, clarifying masks, and active ingredients targeted at bacteria and oil - this is the facial when "I just need someone to actually do something about my skin."
It's our most-booked facial for teenagers, adult acne sufferers, and anyone whose skin has gotten worse since living in or visiting Barbados - the heat, humidity, and sweat-clogged pores are a real factor.

Who this facial is for
The Deep Cleansing Facial is the right choice if any of these sound like you:
- You have frequent breakouts - weekly or more
- You see blackheads or whiteheads on the nose, chin, or forehead that home cleansing doesn't shift
- Your skin feels congested or bumpy under the surface even when it looks clear
- You have oily skin with enlarged or visible pores
- You're a teen or adult with hormonal acne looking for in-treatment support alongside a skincare routine
- Your skin has gotten noticeably worse since moving to Barbados or during longer holidays here
- You play sport or work out heavily - sweat-clogged pores
If your skin is mostly clear and you're after a general glow-up, our Signature Facial is a better fit. If you're dealing with sensitivity or rosacea, see our Sensitivity Facial - the Deep Cleansing approach is too active for sensitive skin.
Severe cystic acne
If you have severe cystic or nodular acne, we strongly recommend seeing a dermatologist as the primary treatment. Facials can complement medical treatment but can't replace it. Our therapists will tell you honestly if your acne is beyond the scope of what facials can resolve.
What's in the Deep Cleansing Facial
Skin analysis
Magnification and consultation. We identify the type of breakouts (whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, cysts) and map where they're concentrated. Different types respond to different parts of the treatment.
Double cleanse
Oil cleanser to dissolve sebum, sunscreen, and surface buildup; followed by an antibacterial gel cleanser that targets the bacteria associated with breakouts. Critical first step - everything else works better when the surface is properly clean.
Salicylic acid exfoliation
Salicylic acid (BHA) is oil-soluble - meaning it gets into pores and dissolves the buildup that causes blackheads and whiteheads. Lactic acid sometimes added on top for extra surface exfoliation. Strength is calibrated to your skin's tolerance.
Steam (the unsung hero)
Warm vapour for 10 minutes softens hardened sebum in the pores, making extractions safer, more effective, and less painful. This is the difference between professional extractions and squeezing at home.
Professional extractions
Hands-on, hygienic extractions of blackheads, whiteheads, and any congestion that's ready to come out. Two principles guide it: extract everything that's safe to extract, leave anything that isn't. Forcing extractions damages skin and causes scars - we never do that.
High-frequency or LED treatment
For inflamed breakouts, we use high-frequency or blue-light LED to kill the bacteria responsible for acne. Painless, no downtime, scientifically validated.
Clarifying mask
Kaolin or bentonite clay mask draws out remaining impurities and oil. Sets for 10–15 minutes while you rest.
Calming serums & SPF
Niacinamide for oil control, hyaluronic acid for hydration (yes - oily skin still needs water), and a non-comedogenic SPF that won't clog freshly cleared pores.
Why acne is harder in Barbados
If you've moved to Barbados or visit regularly and your skin is worse than it used to be, you're not imagining it. Three forces conspire against acne-prone skin in this climate:
Sweat + sebum
Constant heat means constant sweating. Sweat itself doesn't cause acne but it creates the perfect environment - mixing with sebum, dust, and sunscreen residue to clog pores faster than in cooler climates.
Sunscreen layering
Daily SPF is non-negotiable here. But many sunscreens are heavy, oily, and comedogenic. The wrong sunscreen on acne-prone skin = guaranteed breakouts. Your therapist will recommend non-comedogenic options.
Touching your face
Heat and sweat lead people to wipe, touch, and scratch their faces all day. Each touch transfers oil and bacteria from hands. Hands-off is harder in this climate - but more important.
The home routine that compounds it
The Deep Cleansing Facial gives you a powerful reset. Home maintenance keeps your skin from sliding back. The non-negotiable basics:
- Cleanser with salicylic acid - morning and night
- Niacinamide serum - reduces oil production and inflammation
- BHA exfoliant - 2–3 nights a week
- Lightweight non-comedogenic moisturiser - every night
- Non-comedogenic mineral SPF - every morning, no exceptions
- Don't pick or squeeze - the single biggest cause of acne scarring
- Change pillowcase weekly - in this climate, more often
- Wash face after sweating - gym, beach, run, anywhere
What to expect from one session vs ongoing
Single session
- Visible immediate clearing - blackheads, whiteheads, surface congestion gone
- Skin texture noticeably smoother
- 1–3 hours of post-facial redness, fully settled by next day
- Possible 1–2 small "purge" breakouts in the next 48 hours as deep congestion surfaces
- Cleaner pores for 1–2 weeks
3–4 monthly sessions
- Active breakouts substantially reduced
- Pores visibly smaller
- Oil production better balanced
- Existing acne marks beginning to fade
- Confidence noticeable
6+ monthly sessions
- Acne under control without medication for many clients
- Long-term hyperpigmentation marks fading
- Skin tolerates active ingredients better at home
- Often graduated to alternating Deep Cleansing & Signature month-on-month
Booking timing tips
Don't book right before an event
Extractions can leave temporary redness, and the skin sometimes "purges" in the 24–48 hours after. Book 5–7 days before any major event so any temporary breakouts have settled.
Avoid booking during peak menstrual breakout week (if applicable)
Hormonal breakouts are still there but harder to extract cleanly mid-cycle. Mid-cycle (about a week after the period ends) is the optimal window.
Hydrate the day before
Well-hydrated skin extracts more easily and recovers faster. Three litres of water the day before makes a noticeable difference.
For teenagers and parents
Teen acne is often dismissed as "they'll grow out of it" - but the hyperpigmentation marks and scars from untreated teen acne can last well into adulthood. Professional facials in the teen years are one of the highest-leverage interventions you can make.
- We work with teens from 13+ - parental consent required for under-16
- First appointment includes a free home routine consultation for parent and teen
- Recommended schedule: monthly facials for 6 months, reassess
- Combined with a basic 3-product home routine, most teens see dramatic improvement within 3 months
Frequently asked
Can I wear makeup straight after?
We recommend skipping makeup for 12 hours minimum. Pores are open and freshly cleared - foundation creates immediate re-clogging. If you must wear makeup, use a mineral powder rather than liquid.
What if I have a breakout the day of my appointment?
Come anyway. Active breakouts respond well to deep cleansing. Don't try to extract anything at home in the lead-up - you'll make it worse.
Is this the same as a "HydraFacial"?
HydraFacial is a branded machine-led treatment. Our Deep Cleansing Facial uses manual technique with steam, hands-on extractions, and clarifying products. Different approach, similar goals. Many clients prefer manual because it can be more tailored to specific breakouts.
Will it hurt?
Steam and cleansing - relaxing. Extractions - brief, light pressure that some describe as uncomfortable but not painful. If anything is genuinely painful, your therapist will stop and adjust. Communication during the facial is encouraged.
Is the Deep Cleansing Facial good for back acne too?
The face-only Deep Cleansing Facial is for the face, neck, and decolletage. For back acne (bacne), ask about a back facial as a separate booking - the technique is similar but the area is different.
